24th September 2008: European Collective Challenges for "SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES"

Luxinnovation, the National Agency for Innovation and Research and the University of Luxembourg organise a workshop on European funding opportunities for research in the field of social sciences and humanities on 24th September 2008  -  10:00 to 16:00. This workshop will take place at the University of Luxembourg, Campus Walferdange.

New opportunities for Social Sciences and Humanities
As a part of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development (FP7), the Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) calls "FP7-SSH-2009" was launched by the European Commission on the 3rd September 2008. With an indicative budget amounting to EUR 55 million, it will close on 13th January 2009.

The FP7 is the European Commission's main instrument for funding research in Europe for the period 2007-2013. FP7 research funding for SSH aims to contribute to an in-depth, shared understanding of the complex and interrelated socio-economic challenges confronting Europe.

Designed to provide information about the SSH topic under the "Cooperation" programme, this workshop will focus on:

  • The objectives of the 2009 FP7 Work Programme made by the EC, describing the SSH research topics;
  • The implementation of the new calls 2009 benefiting from experience of previous SSH calls;
  • How to get involved in FP7 projects;
  • Relevant experiences related to SSH issues.

An expert from the European Commission will describe the new SSH calls for proposals.

Luxembourg Contribution
Luxinnovation, as National Contact Point (NCP) for FP7 will be actively involved in the workshop by:

  • Raising awareness of FP7 funding opportunities in the field of SSH;
  • Stimulating international partnerships between researchers and developing research at an international level.
  • Establishing a network of SSH researchers in order to share information, experiences and advice regarding European projects.

Furthermore, the non-profit association "Les Humanités associées", a network of young researchers in the humanities and social sciences in Luxembourg as well as an external consultant in SSH activities from the ALMA Consulting group, will elaborate on their activities.

Finally, researchers already involved in an FP7 project will present their own experiences and share practical information.

The researchers will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn key facts on FP7 funding supports;
  • Gather practical information by taking an active part in the discussion;
  • Reinforce links between researchers in Luxembourg thanks to a lunch organised by the University.
