24th September 2008: European Research Funding Opportunities for Social Sciences and Humanities Report
| On 24th September 2008, Luxinnovation, the National Agency for Innovation and Research, organised a thematic workshop entitled "European Collective Challenges for SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES (SSH)" in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg. The aim of this one-day event was to present the funding opportunities offered at European and national levels to researchers and identify the actors of the SSH Network in Luxembourg. |
About 30 people attended the workshop and were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Michel Margue, Dean of FLSHASE (Faculté des Lettres, Sciences Humaines, Arts et Sciences de l'Education). This event was an opportunity for the researchers to discuss project ideas and share personal experiences with speakers directly involved in FP7 and national funding schemes. The Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development (FP7) is the European Commission's main instrument for funding research in Europe during the period 2007-2013.

Exchange of FP7 Best Practices and National Funding Opportunities (FNR)
After a networking lunch, Prof. Dr. Dieter Ferring shared his experience of developing a collaborative project in the field of Assisted Ambient Living. He encouraged all young researchers to take part in an international research project. Indeed, being part of a European partnership might be a very fulfilling experience.
Project management skills are crucial to set up an international project according to Mr. Michel Moulinet - ALMA Consulting Group - who based his presentation on his involvement in the Platon+ project which aims at promoting the SSH approach in European research. Furthermore, Mr Frank Bingen - FNR - presented the national funding opportunities related to SSH provided by the FNR including grants to stimulate researchers' mobility at international level. Mr Christophe Sohn, coordinator of the association "Les Humanités Associées", explained that the organisation's main objective is to enhance the SSH researchers Network in Luxembourg.
Finally, by supporting its researchers to participate in FP7 projects in the field of SSH, the University of Luxembourg aims at strengthening its European dimension and international visibility.
