1st June 2007: ARTES 11 - SGEO, Luxembourg Industry day
| |
| The ARTES 11 - SGEO programme (Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems - Small GEOstationnary Satellite) aims at developing a general purpose small geostationary satellite platform (SGSP), and enabling European actors to compete effectively in the commercial market for such platforms. |
| |
| The two parts of this programme consist firstly of the development of a platform supporting up to 300Kg of payload, being able to be functional for 15 years and secondly of the development and launch of a Small Geostationary Satellite mission demonstrating the capabilities of the platform. |
The ARTES 11 programme was approved in December 2005 and eight ESA member states (Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland) have currently subscribed to its contribution. Its actual budget is EUR 67.1 M. The consortium which is led by the German company OHB-Systems (active in Satellites, crewed spaceflight and transportations) will jointly develop and commercialize the platform. The core team is made of Luxspace (OHB subsidiary in Luxembourg), the Swedish Space Corporation and Oerlikon (Swiss company).
As National Contact Point for ESA, Luxinnovation organized this Industry day in order to discuss opportunities related to the development of the system. Participants were also invited to discuss the matter with ESA and the Industrial Core Team during bi-lateral meetings.
