Background

The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in close cooperation with the Ministry of State, the Luxembourg Embassy in Bangkok (co-accredited in Vietnam), the Honorary Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and BeLuxCham Vietnam will organise an official mission to Vietnam from 3 to 6 May 2023.

This year, Vietnam and Luxembourg celebrate 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. Vietnam, with its young population of around 100 million people, has the fastest-growing middle class in the ASEAN region. Being centrally located in South-East Asia, Vietnam is a hub for companies to set up production and trading facilities.

The mission will focus on Digital Economy, Logistics, Energy/Environment and Smart Construction.

The programme of the mission will include:
• B2B meetings scheduled on 4th May from 9.00 am until 5.00 pm
• a visit of Binh Duong, an extensive network of integrated industrial parks and urban townships advocating sustainability;
• a Business Forum in Ho Chi Minh City with a keynote speech by H.E. Mr Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister;
• an official reception;
• many networking opportunities.

During the official visit of Vietnam’s prime minister Pham Minh Chính to Luxembourg in December 2022, welcomed by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, exchanges on relations between Luxembourg and Vietnam were marked by a desire on the part of both countries to strengthen their economic ties, among other things in the fields of logistics, green finance, as well as in the field of academia and research. The trade mission to Vietnam will build on this momentum with the aim to further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Economic Landscape

Bordering France, Germany and Belgium, Luxembourg is the perfect gateway to Europe for innovative start-ups as well as for established companies wishing to expand their activities. Businesses can benefit from the country’s outstanding digital and top performing logistics infrastructure.

The Grand Duchy offers an internationally pro-business environment, with easy contact with government officials and decision makers with grants and subsidies available to stimulate economic development. Luxembourg is recognised as a leading data economy with strengths in connectivity, data-processing capacity and cybersecurity and also with a strong orientation towards sustainability, smart logistics and digital supply chain. Over the last decade, Luxembourg has continuously improved its positioning as an intercontinental and multimodal logistics hub in Europe for value-added logistics activities (i.e. 3PL and 4PL).

Luxembourg has also implemented a multi-product specialisation strategy within its logistics sector by focusing on certain types of products requiring specific handling and/or storage solutions. The Luxembourg logistics hub has notably been strengthened with a dedicated handling centre for healthcare and pharmaceutical products and a highly secured Freeport for valuable goods at the Luxembourg airport.
