Background
Organised by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in close cooperation with the Ministry of the Economy, an economic mission to Canada, chaired by His Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Guillaume and led by the minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, will take place from June 19 to 24, 2022 in the cities of Toronto and Montreal. The mission, will also be accompanied by Mr Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, as well as a delegation of Luxembourg based companies comprising 70+ representatives.
Economic Landscape
Luxembourg and Canada have much in common based on shared values and a longstanding friendship. Both countries have dynamic economies with a highly skilled workforce, a stable political and economic climate, conduct business in English and French, and demonstrate a strong government focus to help companies expand and grow.
Bordering France, Germany and Belgium, Luxembourg is the perfect gateway to Europe for innovative start-ups as well as for established companies wishing to expand their activities. Businesses can benefit from the country’s outstanding digital and top performing logistics infrastructure.
The Grand-Duchy offers an internationally pro-business environment, with easy contact with government officials and decision makers with grants and subsidies available to stimulate economic development. Luxembourg is recognised as a leading data economy with strengths in connectivity, data-processing capacity and cybersecurity and a leading data economy with a strong orientation towards sustainability. Canada has great potential, both as an export market for Luxembourg goods and services, and as a fertile ground for attracting companies, start-ups, technology and talent to Luxembourg with multiple opportunities to expand across other European markets.
The Luxembourg Parliament ratified the CETA free trade agreement between the EU and Canada opening up additional possibilities to harness untapped business between the two countries.

Startups and the Collision Conference
Luxembourg’s participation in the Collision Conference (June 21-23 in Toronto) is the « anchor event » of the mission where Luxembourg will have a national pavilion (Stand E327) giving six Luxembourg startups and 4 key players the opportunity to showcase their services , technologies and know-how and explore business opportunities within Canada’s own dynamic startup ecosystem.

The conference is organised by leading Canadian incubator for tech-startups DMZ and Startup Luxembourg and is a prime opportunity to discover the Canadian and Luxembourg startup ecosystems and to network.

Healthtech Sector
Luxembourg is home to a growing health technologies sector, attracting start-ups from across the globe and supporting them to grow in Europe. Digital solutions are a frequent theme and healthtech companies benefit from the country’s excellent digital infrastructure and know-how. Driven to improving patients’ medical journeys with smart health products and services centred on personalised and digital medicine, the HealthTech sector leverages the public research expertise in health and biomedicine at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) and the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH). Recently a Professorship in Digital Medicine was created, to bring together the different elements in the digital transformation of healthcare including health economics, digital, medicine and human competencies.
Space Sector
During the mission a particular focus will also be given to the space sector as the Canadian and Luxembourg space agencies will engage in a dedicated side-programme to explore bi-lateral opportunities.
Luxembourg has grown strongly over the last 20 years to become an internationally renowned centre for commercial space activities. Unlike most other space agencies that are largely research-driven, Luxembourg Space Agency’s main priority is developing the business community. Space companies in Luxembourg with strong business ideas can benefit from a complete range of support: funding, premises, research resources and a network of international contacts and potential partners. Economic Forums
Economic forums will take place in Toronto and Montreal to showcase the growing sectors in Luxembourg, allow networking with potential business partners and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
All participants will be able to connect to a dedicated app, which will allow them to interact with other participants and organise meetings before, during and after the Forum.
