The European Commission has recently published the 2019 edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS).
Innovators have a harder time finding risk-willing growth capital in Europe than in the US or in Asia. In order to alleviate this problem and pave the way for breakthrough and disruptive innovation, the European Innovation Council (EIC) has been set up as a new instrument aimed at providing substantial financial support to innovative researchers and companies. On 27 June 2019, Luxinnovation hosted an event where the EIC presented its new funding measures to Luxembourg stakeholders.
The ERC announced its biggest ever annual injection of funding in blue-sky research. €2.2 billion will be made available in 2020 to support some 1,100 top researchers. As in previous years, most of the funding (61%) is earmarked for early- to mid-career scientists and scholars. The funding will also support jobs for an estimated 8,000 postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and other research staff employed in ERC-funded teams.
On 13 June, Luxinnovation organised a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions grant-writing workshop in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and the BeNeLux chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni Association. Participants could learn more about the Individual Fellowships (IF) programme, which is a great option for funding experienced researchers coming to Luxembourg.
