Luxinnovation spoke with Laurent Ciarletta.

How did you first hear about Luxinnovation and our Fit 4 Start programme?

We participated in “ Act in Space” last year and won the Hackathon in Luxembourg. Along with members from the Space Cluster managed by Luxinnovation we went to the finals in Toulouse. So, the contact with Luxinnovation was already established and we then decided to apply for the start-up programme, Fit 4 Start with our technology because we could use the know-how of how to create a company and how to set up a business model.

What has your biggest achievement been since you founded Starwear?

Coming from the space sector we managed to transfer our know-how about localisation using the magnetic field into the Starwear product, which is meant for commercialisation to a broad range of companies in the gaming industry. I must also say that it is really nice to see that we have so much support in Luxembourg and many people try to push us. It gives us a lot of confidence about what we do.

What did you learn so far by participating in the Fit 4 Start programme?

Fit 4 Start gave us many insights in how to follow the real demand of the market. We realised by testing and experimenting that our target group is smaller and more defined than we initially thought. Thus, it is very important to stay agile and adapt quickly to the needs of your future users.

What are your next challenges?

Now we are excited to attract our first clients and find out how they perceive and like our product.

We are producing a first small test series of a Starwear demo kit but it will be a challenge to develop the good manufacturing process for the final product. “Hardware is hard”!

We have already produced a small test series of the Starwear ring but it will be a challenge to find a producer for the final production. Our big, intermediate goal will be to go the CES ( Consumer Technology Association) in Las Vegas in 2018.
