As part of the development of the circular economy in the construction sector in Luxembourg, Luxinnovation and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts organised a webinar on 24 February on the theme “Le rôle de l’Artisanat dans la Construction Circulaire”.

The presentations focused on the circular construction value chain and the analysis of the current situation, as well as on defining the main criteria for circularity in public tenders.

“The circular economy is not necessarily a priority for the craft sector,” says Philippe Genot, manager of the Luxemburg Wood Cluster. “It was therefore important to provide as much information as possible, especially as we have noticed that some players clearly consider this as an opportunity to boost their business. Presenting concrete examples of companies makes it possible to clearly visualise the concept.”

Dedicated support schemes

Following this webinar, two more workshops will be held in order to go into detail on the criteria of circularity (deconstructability, modularity, healthy materials, etc.). They will continue the efforts to raise awareness regarding the circular economy and the expectations of major public contractors in terms of circularity criteria in future new constructions.

“The idea is to identify existing circular innovations and define new ones that would need to be developed, for which we could provide support through aid schemes and the Fit 4 Circularity programme,” says Charles-Albert Florentin, manager of the Luxembourg CleanTech Cluster.

The next workshops will be organised during the second quarter of 2021.
