The hard to miss bright yellow bus, known for advocating and promoting the cause of digital transformation in industrial zones across Luxembourg, will be making a special stop at Luxexpo The Box for the Smart Manufacturing Week.

The Luxembourg Digital Innovation Hub (L-DIH) team at Luxinnovation launched the DIH ON TOUR bus concept in 2021 with the goal of facilitating the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies by bringing digital transformation to the doorstop of companies.

The bus will serve as a unique platform for B2B meetings between company executives to discuss and share best practices for two days during Smart Manufacturing Week. It will also serve as a space for companies to engage with the European Digital Innovation Hubs from Luxembourg and Saarland.

A meeting place for constructive discussions

“Having the DIH on the tour bus during the Smart Manufacturing Week is an interesting mix, as there are several connections that can be made between sustainability and digitalisation,” explains Joachim Clemens-Stolbrink, Senior Advisor Digital Transformation at Luxinnovation. “These two elements tend to be interdependent. To implement successful projects in both areas, companies must share not only best practices but also the challenges they face. This level of trust and engagement to progress together is enabled in the dynamic bus setting. It represents an open space for constructive discussions on technological, human-centric and sustainable aspects of the digital transformation,” he adds.

According to Mr Clemens-Stolbrink, companies have laid emphasis on change management, upskilling, communication and other human centric challenges in previous bus discussions.

The presence of the bus at the Smart Manufacturing Week is another opportunity for companies to reflect on the digital transformation constraints they are facing from all angles and explore solutions from other companies and supporting services the European Digital Innovation Hubs present.

DIH ON TOUR returns in September and October 2023

The annual DIH ON TOUR event will kick off in the last quarter of the year on 28 September and 3 to 5 October 2023. Like in the previous two editions, several companies will host the bus on these days and attract other companies in different industrial zones for meetings, factory tours, best-practice sharing, awareness sessions, trainings and presentations in their premises and on the bus.

“This year, we will make four stops, and we are in talks with companies that will host the bus. The daily programme will be reworked to ensure that our community has the best experience possible. It will begin with a tour of the factory facilities so that companies can exchange in-depth on technological and human-centric aspects of Industry 4.0… new technologies, digital solutions, robotisation, and successful change management systems,” specifies Mr Clemens-Stolbrink.

We integrate the feedback of our community in all our initiatives.

DIH ON TOUR in Germany

Another exciting event to watch out for is the special DIH ON TOUR on 14 and 15 November 2023. DIH will be ON TOUR in a comfortable coach and will visit the Smart Production Solutions (SPS) Fair in Nuremberg, one of the largest international fairs in Europe covering all areas of smart and digital industrial automation. The next day, the coach will make a stop at the Siemens one-of-a-kind fully digital factory in Amberg.

“The idea for this special tour is a direct result of the workshop organised by the L-DIH in January at FEDIL and shows how we integrate the feedback of our community in all our initiatives. After the visit of the SPS fair, attendees of this special tour will be able to experience advanced production tools and systems and will have direct access to the Siemens specialists in charge of this unique digital factory,” highlights Mr Clemens-Stolbrink.
