This energy island project is a crucial move to boost the supply of offshore wind power considerably in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions across Europe. It will contribute to achieving the EU’s objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050. The islands will produce renewable energy on an unprecedented scale, thereby accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels in Europe.

I am happy that a landlocked country like Luxembourg has the opportunity to actively participate in the development of the first offshore windmill island in the world.

Dan Jorgensen and Claude Thurmes“Offshore wind power will play an important role in securing the supply of the electricity grid in Western Europe,” said Luxembourg Minister of Energy Claude Thurmes. “I am happy that a landlocked country like Luxembourg has the opportunity to actively participate in the development of the first offshore windmill island in the world and thus can contribute to this important development for the energy transition. This cooperation with Denmark is complementary to the national strategy, which aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy in Luxembourg.”

“Denmark and Luxembourg are committed to Europe’s green energy transition,” emphasised Dan Jørgensen, the Danish minister of climate, energy and utilities. “Today, we are taking a big step forward.”
