Originating in 2005, Cleantech Forum Europe has become a “must attend” event for Europe’s key players in the field of clean technologies. Close to 400 participants – leading innovators, start-ups, corporates and investors from all over Europe – have signed up to the 2021 edition, which is organised with the Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and Luxinnovation as hosting partners.

BGL, the Chamber of Commerce, Encevo, the House of Entrepreneurship, LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) and Cube4T8 also represent the Luxembourg ecosystem as event partners.

“We are proud to host this renowned cleantech event,” says Sasha Baillie, CEO of Luxinnovation. “Due to the coronavirus pandemic we are not able to welcome the participants on site here in Luxembourg, but the virtual conference still allows us to show that sustainability, clean technologies and the implementation of a circular economy are main priorities for us.”

Latest cleantech innovation trends

Entitled “From Chaos to Transformation: Tackling the Climate Crisis Together”, the event covers the latest trends in fields such as decarbonisation, green hydrogen and the use of data. Encevo will host a session on energy efficiency, and BGL one on the reuse of electronic waste. Thomas Kallstenius, CEO of LIST, and Carlo Thelen, CEO and Director General of the Chamber of Commerce, will speak at the opening session on the first day of the event.

The start of the second day will include an address by Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot, who will highlight Luxembourg’s ambitions in the field of cleantech, enhanced by the crisis. “The COVID-19 crisis can be seen as a catalyst that has accelerated existing important trends”, says Franz Fayot. “It has also strengthened the need for sustainability. Besides digital technologies, Luxembourg’s government also considers clean technologies in general, and the circular economy in particular, as essential tools for building a more sustainable and resilient economy”.

Jérôme Petry, Deputy Director Sustainable Technologies at the ministry will also present the Circularity Dataset Initiative, a Luxembourg initiative, which aspires to provide a Europe-wide industry standard for circular data on products throughout the whole value chain, the Product Circularity Data Sheet.

“Clean technologies are not an isolated sector – there is a rapidly growing awareness, further accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis, that long-term sustainable solutions are needed across the whole economy,” says Georges Schaaf, Head of International Business Development – CleanTech at Luxinnovation. “With our participation in 2021 Cleantech Forum Europe, we are confirming to the cleantech community that Luxembourg is an attractive base for offering sustainable solutions to the European market.”
