Indeed, Luxembourg applications in H2020 programmes increased by +195% with 417 applications (until 1 July 2018) compared to 141 over the entire FP7 period.

Successful participation in H2020

The success rate of Horizon 2020 applications in Luxembourg is 15.7%, (EU28 average: 14.6%). The EU28 average success rate is lower than during FP7 (21.6%), yet this is explained because of the higher number of applicants and of the more difficult H2020 application procedure.

The number of participation of Luxembourg RDI performers to H2020 rose by 64%, with an average of 60 applications per year under H2020, instead of 37 per year under FP7. Luxembourg’s participation increase is the highest among EU28.

As a result, the received amount of annual H2020 funding by Luxembourg doubled (+120% H2020 funding) compared to the received amount of annual FP7 funding, whereas Germany saw an H2020 funding increase of 15%, Denmark of 21%, France of 4% and Belgium of 26%.

Luxembourg has the second highest score among EU Member States of number of participations in signed grants per thousands scientists and engineers with 10.6 H2020 signed grants per thousands scientists and engineers. In comparison, France signed 4.8 grants, Germany 3.3 grants and Belgium 8 grants per thousand scientists and engineers.
