February 01, 2018 marked an auspicious event in Luxembourg, the official incorporation of the Composite Industry Luxembourg ASBL. At the start, eight industrial companies have organised themselves in order to participate in open innovation and industry-oriented collaborative (R&D) projects, leveraging on the National Composite Centre Luxembourg.

The newly formed Composite Industry Luxembourg ASBL (CIL) is composed of SMEs and multinationals based in Luxembourg although it is also open to international new entries. The founding members consist of Airtech, Dupont, E-Xstream, GlanzstoffGoodyear and  Reichert technologies with the adhesion of two new full members Molecular Plasma Group and  Guala Closures GCL and all are important players in the materials and composite sector. The creation of the new ASBL offers a voice to the materials and composite companies in terms of the development of practical applications which could help generate more value from the National Composite Centre – Luxembourg (NCC-L) so that it is not pure R&D but assumes a more  business orientation.

From the outset, these business leaders wish to extend an invitation for new and committed members interested in becoming part of an active association that wants to push collaboration forward to generate value for its members and for the Luxembourg economy.

NATIONAL COMPOSITE INITIATIVE

The CIL completes the picture for the National Composite Initiative.

One of the key objectives of the national composite initiative is to serve as a vehicle to attract foreign investment to Luxembourg through the creation of new companies, the reinforcement of the country’s nation branding as well as to increase of employment and the level of national skills.

The CIL will play the role of catalyst consolidating the available core competencies of Luxembourg via the identification and execution of identified projects as well as networking, incubating, consulting and training. As a result, it will allow for the augmentation of the attractiveness of Luxembourg in the field of new composite materials combining nanotechnology, bio-based resources, chemistry, engineering, material science and processing, as well as manufacturing.

AN ECO-SYSTEM STRONGER THAN ITS PARTS

The reinforced eco-system is composed of three interdependent pillars:

The creation of the ASBL is a milestone in gathering private industry around an open innovation initiative. With this final and significant piece in place, the composite industry initiative has the opportunity to become a positive force for the industry. The message they wish to impart is that the ASBL is to be an organisation with a serious mission that carries some weight. An invitation is extended for new and like-minded members to join.
