The first edition of the Circular By Design Challenge is officially launched. An initiative of the Luxembourg Creative Industries Cluster managed by Luxinnovation, and supported by the Ministry of Economy, this “Challenge” is open to all companies of the creative industries.
Its objective: to enable the development of new design solutions and innovative business models that are in line with the principles of the circular economy.
“I am deeply convinced that the circular economy is the most efficient, sustainable and profitable economic model,” explained Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot at the opening of the launch webinar of the challenge. “We want to encourage you to develop new circular products and become circular design experts. No business model can be circular if the product is not designed accordingly. We are building the required ecosystem that circular businesses need to thrive and be successful.”
The Circular By Design Challenge has five categories:
- Fashion Design
- Product Design
- Interior Design
- Mobility
- Design as a Service
The webinar gave international specialists such as Arthur Huang (founder and CEO of Miniwiz, a company specialising in optimising waste recycling) and Professor Martin Charter (author of the book Designing for the Circular Economy) the opportunity to give examples of circular products.
The webinar also provided a detail explanation of how creative companies in Luxembourg can participate. They have until 4 December to apply.
“I am particularly proud and happy about this initiative,” concluded Sasha Baillie, CEO of Luxinnovation. “The Luxembourg government has made the promotion and development of the circular economy one of its priorities, so that the country remains at the forefront in this field. You, the creative people, undoubtedly have the profile to become part of the solution in the face of the great challenge that lies ahead of us.”
