The January 2018 publication by the European Commission of the proposal for Horizon Europe, the next Research and Innovation Framework financed by the European Union, has started a lot of ongoing debates.

The Science of Communication Journal published, under the supervision of Marzia Mazzonetto and Angela Simone, a compilation of comments and suggestions on the future of “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) and “Science with and For Society” (SWAFS) within Horizon Europe by leading researchers of the field. This compilation brings together strong examples and concrete suggestions of the importance of maintaining and strengthening RRI within Horizon Europe.

UK participation in Horizon Europe


As the United Kingdom is no longer an EU member state, the country’s participation in Horizon Europe has been clarified with the conclusion of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement on 31 December 2020. The UK will continue to contribute financially to the programme and its researchers can still participate in projects.
