We interviewed Alfonso García Frey (AGF), founder of Visual Scaffolding, about entrepreneurship and Fit for Start.
How did you first hear about Luxinnovation and our Fit for Start programme?
AGF: When we decided to create Visual Scaffolding we wanted to explore all the potential opportunities different countries offer ICT start-ups like us. We met several national institutions including Luxinnovation, who is known as a reliable and competent player of the Luxembourg start-up ecosystem. The Fit for Start program was perfectly aligned with our needs and ambitions. It was exactly the support programme we needed at that specific moment, so we applied immediately.
What has been your biggest achievement since you founded Visual Scaffolding?
AGF: I strongly believe that the quality of your product reflects the quality of your people. Setting up a high quality team with international and complementary profiles was a major step in the evolution of the company. Visual Scaffolding is currently composed of three people with the right competencies and a significant entrepreneurial experience. Most importantly, we are all truly motivated and passionate about what we do.
As a start-up with limited resources, making the most of your team is probably the first step to future success. Together, we were able to develop our first product prototype. Above all, if you have a great team it will be much easier to tackle the many challenges to come.

What did you learn so far by participating in the Fit for Start programme?
AGF: First of all, the importance of setting clear and achievable short-term goals. Of course, as an entrepreneur you always have a clear vision about how your product should disrupt the market in the long run. If you want to achieve such a vision though, you need to take one step at a time and to enter the market as soon as you can. That’s why the Lean approach, which was implemented during Fit for Start, was so useful. Being able to build a technology that meets market needs while maximising our resources was not easy, but getting early market feedback drastically improved the value of the product we are now able to offer our first users. It was without any doubt the best way to proceed.
What are your next challenges?
AGF: We are currently working hard on the release of our first commercial version, scheduled for the end of the summer. We are very confident that this new version will help front-end developers in their daily work. Many people count on us now, we will do everything to live up to their expectations.
