The Robert Schuman Hospitals group is investing in the fight against the effects of the COVID pandemic. It has therefore entrusted its subsidiary Santé Services S.A. with the implementation of a production line for protective masks.

An initiative that motivated the visit, on 29 September, of Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and the Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Lex Delles, to the site of the Gasperich-based factory.

Initially active in the coordination of the hospital group’s catering activities, Santé Services S.A. has since the spring expanded its activities in the field of the supply of essential items. Its supply management platform for protective equipment, MedLogistics.lu, went online in May. Its objective: to provide quality equipment for health professionals and other stakeholders, enabling them to work in a secure environment during this pandemic period.

MedLogistic is also one of the active players on the epi-covid.lu website launched by Luxinnovation last April.

Speed and agility

Following the acquisition of a first machine, a production line with a capacity of 20,000 surgical masks per day has been launched. The investment project has received a support of €200,000 from the Ministry for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

During this Wednesday’s presentation, Santé Services announced that it had invested in a second machine producing masks, this time of the FFP2 type. This equipment is currently in the test phase and will be fully operational in a few weeks.

Luxinnovation has supported the company in its agile and innovative approach to implement a fast and efficient solution. “It is great to see the very short time needed by Santé Services to become operational”, says Jean-Philippe Arié, the manager of the Luxembourg HealthTech Cluster. “They had to both fine-tune the production, by completely reconfiguring the machine from its initial state, and at the same time obtain the ‘Medical Device’ certificates, all in a very short time. We can only welcome this type of initiative, which contributes to the resilience of our economy and country in these difficult times.”
